BIRD Young Investigator Grant

To support young researchers in the field of IBD, BIRD awards at least two original (basic or clinical) research projects related to IBD with a BIRD grant of 6000 euros* each.

 
The research project can be submitted by one or two people of the same Belgian institution. Applicants should be a BIRD member and be younger than 40 at the submission deadline. Candidates who previously applied but did not receive the grant can apply again.

 

The application for the BIRD grant should be in the following format:

  1. One page CV of the applicant
  2. Summary of previous research of the applicant
  3. Research project: maximum 3 pages A4, Arial Narrow 12, simple interline, with the following sections (+ 1 extra-page of references if needed):
    • Background of the current research project
    • Research hypothesis AND objectives
    • Methodology/strategy and limitations
    • Research environment
    • Perspectives and added value for the IBD patients

 

REMARK: do not mention your name or affiliation in the research project

The deadline for the application of the BIRD grant 2025 is 15th March 2025.

Each application will be evaluated by the BIRD governing board based on the following criteria:

  • Interest of the study
  • Originality of the study
  • Writing and presentation
  • Feasibility of the study
  • Overall evaluation of the project

 

Announcement

Grant winners will be personally informed and announced at the General Assembly in May and through the BIRD newsletter.

Winners will also be posted on the BIRD website, with an abstract of their research project. 

BIRD Grant winners can be invited to present their research project at a BIRD General Assembly.

 

*A first part of 2000 euros will be awarded after acceptation, a second after presentation during an (inter)national gastroenterology congress and a third one after full publication.
