Welcome to our 2022 BIRD May Symposium:
Evidence based comparison of treatments in IBD: From methodology to clinical practice
The expanding therapeutic armamentarium creates an unprecedented wealth in therapeutic options. But, undoubtedly also makes the choice of the right treatment for the right patient a challenge. Well-designed clinical trials in IBD have to focus on these research problems. Choosing and designing the most appropriate study is of great importance in generating the best clinically relevant evidence.
In this focused symposium we will introduce and discuss some of the more advanced concepts and skills of research design, specifically head-to-head trials, and network meta-analysis, highlighting how these relate to evidence-based health care. Participants will also learn strategies to manage bias and assess the quality of published research.
Furthermore, we will consider the practical applications to IBD studies and discuss the Belgian research landscape.
